MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. -- Eastern Illinois freshman
Gino Parrodi, who was recently named to the Ohio Valley Conference All-Newcomer squad, jumped eleven spots following day two play at the OVC Championship on Tuesday, leading all Panther golfers at The Shoals golf course.
The Gueretaro, Mexico native fired a one-over-par 73 to jump from 29th place on day one to an 18th position heading into the final round on Wednesday. He is now eight-over-par for the tournament after earning three birdies on the day.
Parrodi overtook former EIU leader
Francisco Cherizola, who finished in a 33rd place tie after firing eight more strokes than he did on the first day of action when he was tied for 13th off a first round of 75.
Other Panther golfers competing included junior
Matt Bird who also made a nine place improvement on day two, also cutting off nine strokes for a second day score of 73, which currently places him 13-over-par and tied for 31st place.
Despite improving his day two score by four strokes, senior
Matt Davis only moved one spot, from 36th to 35th. Lastly, freshman
Lucas Mannix rounded out the Panther unit, finishing in the exact spot he earned on day one, finishing all alone in 43rd place, yet improving his day two play by five strokes.
Team-wise, the Panther made a 13-stroke improvement to move up to eighth place out of the nine-team field. EIU had a day one total of 320 but finished with a 307 on the second day, jumping ahead of foe Tennessee Tech, who took over last place. Murray State held onto the top spot despite firing seven more strokes then they did on the first day of play, and have a combined nine-over-par total of 585.
Final round action continues on Wednesday at the Shoals golf course in Muscle Shoals, Ala., with Jacksonville State playing host to the end-of-season championship.
