CHARLESTON, Ill. - Winning all but one race, the Eastern Illinois men's and women's swimming squads cruised past visiting Millikin University on Saturday afternoon, as the Panther won, 107-59 and 105-6, respectively.
The sweep helps move the Panther squads to 4-2 and 3-3 on the year for the men and women, respectively.
The lone race not won by a Panther unit was on the 100-Butterfly event on the women's side, otherwise Eastern had their way in the remaining races.
Individually, the EIU women were led by Laura Nilsen, as she won both the 200-Free (2:01.12) and 100-Free (55.36). Also winning two events was Hailey Foss in both the 200-IM (2:17.34) and 100-Back (1:04.95).
Lauren Zillmer and Morgan Roberts each set new season bests by winning their respective 500-Free (5:21.41) and 100-Breast (1:14.10) races.
Also finishing first was Sarah Jones in the 1000-Free (11:37.60) and Alyssa Lehman in the 50-Free sprint (26.40).
Eastern swept the relay events as Hailey Foss, Lauren Stotts, Tammy Bowen, and Rachel Howe teamed up for the 200-Medley Relay (1:59.50) win, while Laura Nilsen, Molly Nordyke, Sarah Jones, and Rachel Howe won the 200-Free Relay (1:46.41).
On the men's side, Daniel Enge captured two first place finishes, first in the 50-Free sprint (22.86) race and again by winning the 100-Fly (53.67).
Three swimmers topped their previous seed time and touched first with Tim Mathieu winning in the 1000-Free (10:21.54) and 500-Free (4:58.60), Colin McGill won the 200-Free (1:49.08), which was also a new personal best this year, as did Cody Showers in his 200-IM (2:05.79) victory.
Other first place winners included Mike Lacine in the 100-Breast (1:02.16), Rich Waszak in the 100-Free (49.20) and John Wilson taking first in the 100-Back (56.76).
Like the women, the Panther men also took both relay races, as the foursome of John Wilson, Mike Lacine, Rich Waszak, and Christian Rhoten combined for the 200-Medley Relay win (1:43.33), and Joe Ciliak, Matt Scaliatine, Matt O'Hagan, and Nathan Moritz joined up to win the 200-Free Relay (1:31.43).
Panthers return to action next weekend, traveling to Fishers, Ind. to battle both the Valparaiso and Ball State squads, with first splash set for Sunday (Jan. 24) at 11 am (CST).
