WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Eastern Illinois women's rugby won the squad's 28th straight contest, rolling over Purdue, 75-5, on Tuesday evening as the Panthers improved to 2-0 on the early season.
Freshman wing
Cara Hahne had another impressive game, running in three trys, while junior
Narissa Ramirez also had three run-ins and added a team-best three assists.
Also earning points for the Panthers was senior
Coartney McKinney, who finished with two trys and two assists, while going 5-for-14 in two-point conversions.
Kayla Heal,
Lauren Doyle,
Kelsi Wright,
Stefanie Mahan, and
Ashley Aardsma each recorded a try as the Panthers built a 32-5 lead before blowing the game open for the 75-5 win. The closest Purdue got was 20-5 nearly halfway in the first half.
Eastern is now 6-0 in the all-time series with Purdue, having beaten the Big Ten squad four times over the past five seasons.
The Panthers will continue a busy start to the season, playing their third game in less than two weeks as Eastern will host Notre Dame on Sunday in the squad's home opener, with kickoff set for 3 pm at EIU's Lakeside Rugby Field. This will first-ever meeting on the rugby field between the Irish and Panthers.
