HOMEWOOD, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's tennis snapped a recent two-matching losing streak with a 5-2 road win over Chicago State on Tuesday (March 19) afternoon.
The win improves the Panthers to 4-3 on the season as EIU finishes up the non-conference portion of the 2013 slate.
After capturing the all-important doubles point, Eastern would pick up four individual wins in singles play for the final margin of victory.
Ryan Henderson earned the first straight-set win at No. 6 play, followed by
Robert Skolik's own consecutive frame victory at No. 3.
After CSU pulled to within 3-1 of the Panthers with a win at No. 5,
Kevin Bauman and
Warren Race would hit past their respective Cougar opponents at No. 4 and No. 2 to extend EIU's lead to 5-1.
The host team would earn the final win at the top of the lineup as
Michael Sperry dropped a three-set thriller.
The Panther men will next be in action on Thursday, as the guys will join the EIU women in a road dual at instate league rival SIU Edwardsville. Then this weekend, both Eastern squads will entertain Murray State and Austin Peay on Saturday (March 23) and Sunday (March 24), respectively.
