INDIANAPOLIS -- Eastern Illinois men's and women's swimming squads completed the 2014-15 campaign on Saturday (Feb. 21) as the Panthers finished up Summit League Championship action with ten additional new and/or improved school marks over the course of the day.
Saturday highlights included newcomer Amy Smith earning her second school record finish, as she followed up her 100-Back tally from Friday with a new fastest Panther time in the 200-Back this afternoon, as she finished with a 2:03.82 time. Â That mark not only improved her previous #5 EIU record, but she also advanced to the A Finals with a seventh place tally.
For the guys, fellow freshman Brandon Robbinson added his name to the EIU Top 10 with a new runner-up time of 2:05.86 in the 200-Breast, which he notched in the B Finals as he led all competitors in that race for a 9th overall finish.
Jake Roberts and Carolyn Belford now own #4 and #5 EIU marks in their respective 1000-Free and 200-Fly events. Â Roberts bettered his 2013 season mark with a split time in the 1650-Free event, yet still maintains his #4 tally in the record books. Â Belford, meanwhile, added her name to the Panther records with a 2:11.53 in the prelims before advancing to the B Finals.
Roberts also improved his 1650-Free tally with a 1:52.49 time to move him up to #5 all-time from his previous #7 place mark as he also finished 7th overall in the race at the league meet.
Steve Fishman (1:52.49 in prelims) and Kelsey Ferguson (2:27.65 in prelims) followed with #5 EIU mark additions, off their respective 200-Back and 200-Breast events, with Fishman advancing to the B Finals in his event.
