Women's Tennis Sweeps Butler 7-0

Panther women earn first win of the spring season sweeping the Butler Bulldogs 7-0

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Eastern Illinois women's tennis team earned their first win of the spring dual season sweeping Butler on the road 7-0. The dual win is the first of new head coach Emily Wang's career at EIU. With the win the tennis team improves to 1-1 on the season while Butler falls to 0-3.

The Panthers opened the dual winning all three doubles matches to earn the important doubles point for EIU.

It was a similar story on the singles side of the court as each Panther earned their first match victories of the 2016 campaign. Freshman Srishti Slaria earned her first career wins as a Panther defeating Callie Schmit [6-1, 6-4] at the No. 5 spot. Slaria also won her doubles match with partner Kamile Stadalninkaite [6-3] over the Bulldog duo of Schmit and Jordan Minnick.

Hannah Kimbrough won a hard fought match over Butler's Rachel Sutton at the No. 4 position eventually earning the victory in three sets [6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-9)]. Kimbrough was not the only Panther to head to a tie-breaker set as Maria Moshteva battled back after dropping the first set to Jordan Minnick to earn a three set victory from the No. 6 position [2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-2)]

After falling in three sets in a hotly contested match at Illinois to open the season Grace Summers continued her stellar play at the No. 3 spot winning in straight sets and nearly blanking her opponent Kailey Eaton [6-0, 6-1].

Women's tennis will take the court again next Saturday [Jan. 30] as they travel to face Western Illinois at 12 pm.
