CHARLESTON,Ill - The Eastern Illinois women's tennis team began their weekend trip to Ohio with a 5-2 win over the Dayton Flyers Friday evening at the Five Seasons Sports Park.

The Panthers were able to spoil the Flyers home opener by winning the majority of their single matches, along with winning two of the three doubles competitions.

Senior Kelly Iden defeated Dayton's Marlys Bridgham in singles competition 6-3, 7-6 from the No. 1 position to improve to 2-0 on the year.

Iden also teamed up with Stella Cliffe in the doubles competition for the second week in a row. The Panther pair defeated Mattea Kilstofte and Bridgham 6-4.

Grace Summers and Maria Moshteva earned their first singles wins of the season as Summers won her match at the No. 2 spot 6-1, 6-2 over Dayton senior Alex Townsend. Moshteva defeated Jackie Kawamoto in two sets 6-3,7-5 from the No. 5 position.

Summers joined Kamile Stadalninkaite for doubles play as the two came away with a 6-3 win over Marchant and Kawamoto.

Eastern improves to 2-0 on the season and will stay in Dayton today to play Wright State at 2:30 p.m. Dayton falls to 0-2 for their early 2017 campaign.

Wright State is 3-2 so far this season, and is 3-0 when having the home court advantage.
