CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Eastern Illinois men's tennis team dropped both matches against Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech this weekend in the opening weekend of their Ohio Valley Conference season.
Following the two losses, EIU falls to 2-15 this season and 0-2 in the conference.
On Friday, the Panthers traveled to Jacksonville, Ala. to face Jacksonville State and were defeated 6-1. In the No. 2 position Marko Stefan Janjusic recorded the Panthers only singles victory in Friday's match downing Pablo Caffarena 6-2, 3-6, 11-9. He currently leads the Panthers holding a 7-9 record in singles play.
The Panthers also earned one doubles victory thanks to the duo of Trent Reiman and Ferdinand Ammer in the No. 2 position. The pair's 7-5 win marks their second of the season.
EIU remains winless against Jacksonville State updating their series record to 0-14.
EIU faced Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn. Saturday, going into the matchup TTU had been dominant against EIU in the past holding a 16-1 series record over the Panthers. The Golden Eagles walked away with a 7-0 win over EIU winning each match in straight sets.
Next week the men's tennis team returns to the Rex Darling Courts for the first time this year hosting Eastern Kentucky Friday (Mar. 24) at 2 p.m.
