CHARLESTON, Ill. - This week the Eastern Illinois men's tennis team is scheduled for only one match as the Panthers close out OVC play against Austin Peay this Saturday at 2 p.m. on the Rex Darling Courts.
Last week the Panthers fell to two conference opponents giving them a 0-5 record in the Ohio Valley Conference. Several players were dominant in those matches such as the duo of
Gage Kingsmith and
Grant Reiman, who picked up their second consecutive win Friday and their third consecutive win Saturday with a 6-4 result. They are now one game under .500 this season improving to 4-5 after the wins.
In singles competition
Marko Stefan Janjusic improved to 9-12 after defeating his Tennessee State opponent 6-4, 6-0.
Grant Reiman, previously on a 10-match losing streak, broke out of his slump defeating TSU's Tom Parant 6-3, 6-1.
As Saturday approaches EIU looks to gain their first win against an OVC opponent this year. Austin Peay is currently 4-11 as they were previously defeated by Jackson State University 5-2 this past Saturday (Mar. 25).
History between the Panthers and Austin Peay dates way back to the late 90's with APSU holding a 15-10 series record over EIU picking up wins in the last 8 meetings.
Next week the Eastern Illinois men's tennis team will close out the regular season hosting a doubleheader against Hanover at 9 a.m. followed by UIS at 3 p.m. on Saturday (Apr. 15) at the Rex Darling Courts.
