Six First Place Finishes For EIU Track & Field

Panthers open indoor season at Indiana State

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. –  Eastern Illinois track and field competed for the first time on Saturday since last February when the Panthers won the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track Championship. 

Today the Panthers posted four individual first place finishes while sweeping the men's and women's 4x400 relay's at the Indiana State John Gartland Invite.

Akiya Kollore picked up the inaugural first place finish of the season for EIU winning the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.01.   Senior Makenna Wilson picked up where she left off last season in throws winning the shot put with a mark of 46'5.25".

On the men's side Riley Baker captured first in the men's 400 meter run with a time of 50.00 which set the facility record.  Tadiwa Mhonde followed with a first place in the 200 meter run with a time of 22.75.

Baker and Mhonde were two of the four EIU men's runners on the first place 4x400 relay team.  EIU won with a time of 3:22.52 with Damian Clay and Gregory Downs joining Baker and Mhonde.

Taylor Wright, Zakiya Johnson, Danielle Frank and Alicia Adams were the Panthers women's 4x400 relay team that posted a winning time of 4:03.13. 

Three of the EIU women's 4x400 relay runners added additional top three event finishes on the day.  Adams was second in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:00.26.  Wright was just behind in the 400 meter placing third with a time of 1:00.31.  Frank was third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.86.  Madison Myrick rounded out the EIU women with top three finishes placing third in the high jump as she cleared 5'3".

The EIU men added four other top three individual event finishes on Saturday.  Jekeel Suber was second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.26.  Stenoree Allen placed third in the 60 meter hurdle event with a time of 8.74.  EIU placed second and third in the triple jump as well.  Ramsey Hunt was second with a mark of 45'9.25".  Downs was third with a mark of 43'4.25".
