Track Wraps Up Competition At Gibson Invite

Hatfield sets school record at Virginia Challenge

Meet Results

Eastern Illinois outdoor track competed at the Indiana State Gibson Invite over the weekend with the Panthers posting seven individual top six performances and one relay top five finish.
 
In addition Dustin Hatfield shattered the EIU school record in the men's 10,000 meter run competing at the Virginia Challenge.  Hatfield finished sixth in the race with a time of 29:05.69 which broke the record set by All-American Joe Sheeran of 29:23, set in 1978.
 
At the Indiana State meet, Mason Jones had the highest finish for the Panthers placing second in the men's steeplechase with a time of 9:38.05.
 
Makenna Wilson had the best finish for the EIU women placing fourth in the hammer throw on Friday with a mark of 187'8".
 
Danielle Frank added a top five finish on Friday in the women's 200 meter with a time of 24.48 to place fifth.  The time was the ninth best in school history.   Frank then ran the second leg on the 4x100 relay that placed fourth on Saturday with a time of 47.09.  She was joined on the relay by Vivica Coleman, Zakiya Johnson and Akiya Kollore.
 
Trevor Murphy and Payton Powell had top six finishes for the EIU men on the track.  Murphy was fifth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 3:56.85 while Powell was sixth in the 200 meter run on Friday with a time of 21.88.
 
Steven Rowe and Brady Webb had top six finishes for the EIU men in field events.  Rowe was fifth in the high jump clearing 6'6.75" while Webb was sixth in the long jump covering 21'0.25".
 
EIU returns to action next week at the Drake Relays.
