Track Posts Seven First Place Finishes In ISU Dual

Three Panthers post EIU top ten performances

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Eastern Illinois outdoor track and field traveled an hour East on Saturday as the Panthers competed in a dual meet with regional opponent Indiana State.
 
The host Sycamores picked up wins in both meets with the ISU women winning 106-65 and ISU men winning 112-58.
 
EIU posted seven individual first place finishes on the day with three athletes posting EIU top ten performances.
 
Nick Phillips won the men's hammer as his throw of 198'10" ranks second on the EIU career charts.
 
Emily Montgomery won the women's hammer with her throw of 170'7" landing in sixth place on the EIU career list.
 
On the track Zakiya Johnson won the women's 200 meter dash with her time of 24.43 ranking seventh on the EIU career list.  Johnson would also run the third leg on the first place 4x100 relay team that won with a time of 47.18.  Johnson was joined by Trelyn Newkirk, Vivica Coleman and Akiya Kollore.
 
Jocelyne Mendoza and Shinisa Stinson rounded out the first place finishers for the EIU women.  Mendoza won the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:52.12.  Stinson won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.31.
 
Ryan Skowronski and Jekeel Suber rounded out the first place finishers for the EIU men.  Skowronski won the 800 meter run with a time of 1:58.80 while Suber won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.58. 
 
EIU will host the Big Blue Classic next week at O'Brien Field.
