Eastern Illinois outdoor track and field posted three first place finishes on Friday including a school record as the Panthers competed at the second day of the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships in Little Rock.
Abby Venhaus set the school record in the women's long jump winning the event with a mark of 20'7.25". Teammate
Angela Dobbins was third in the event landing on the podium with a mark of 19'10.50", fifth best in school history. Those performances along with two other Friday podium finishes and four additional point scoring efforts moved the EIU women into second in the team standings with 47.50 points. Southeast Missouri holds the team lead with 60 points.
Maliek Bush and
Cale Smith both landed first place finishes for the EIU as the Panthers are second entering the final day with 88 points behind leader Southeast Missouri with 93.5 points.
Bush won the men's long jump with a mark of 25'0.50", the sixth best long jump in school history.
Smith won the men's steeplechase with a time of 9:12.48.
Rylea Borgic was a silver medalist in the women's steeplechase with a time of 11:06.86.
Additional men's podium performers on Friday included
Jacob Maxwell and
Teegan Simmons in the discus along with
Machi Nelson in the high jump. Maxwell was second with a throw of 162'5 just edging Simmons with a throw of 162'5" as Simmons earned bronze.
Becca Robbins was the final podium finisher for the EIU women placing third in the discus with a throw of 139'3".
The EIU men added points on the day by
Sawyer Woodard (4th discus),
Kaden Salisbury (5th discus),
Zac Stout (4th decathlon),
Benjamin Roedl (7th high jump) and
Mason Stoeger (8th steeplechase).
The women's point scorers for EIU were
