CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Senior Oscar Borda continued to lead the Eastern Illinois men's golf squad today (April 21), as the Panthers completed the regular-season slate with an eighth place finish at the two-day Xavier Invitational.
After tying for 24th place (+8) following first day action, Borda added nine strokes to his game in the final round to tie for 31st place (231/+18) out of 50 competitors at the Par 71, 6,809-yard Maketewah Country Club course just outside of Cincinnati.
Marcus Dahlin improved his second day play to jump up eight spots in the final standings as the sophomore ended up tying for 34th with a 232 score (+19), as senior James Jansen followed in a tie for 41st (235/+22).
Sophomore Daniel Hughes and senior Brady Welsh rounded out the Panther squad with a respective 46th place tie and 50th place finish.
Leading from start to finish, Ohio Valley Conference rival Eastern Kentucky captured the team title with a +16 868, as the host Xavier and Western Kentucky units each had a player tie for first place, individually, with three-under-par 210 scores.
Team-wise, the Panthers dropped from 7th place on Monday to 8th, as EIU added 12 strokes to their tally to notch 932 total shots (+80).
Eastern will next prepare for the end-of-season Ohio Valley Conference championship later this week (April 24-26) down at The Shoals Golf Course in Alabama.
