Brenda Torres wins women's 6K race for EIU

Eastern Illinois cross country picked up a pair of team titles on Friday afternoon as the Panthers won both the men's and women's team championships at the 2025 EIU Walt Crawford.
 
In addition to team accolades Brenda Torres pulled away to win the women's 6K race for EIU crossing in a time of 21:33.9. 
 
Torres led a 1-2-3 finish for the EIU women as they placed all five scored runners in the top six to finish with 17 points for the win.
 
Sophie Krueger was second at 21:52.2 with Rylea Borgic finishing third with a time of 21:54.0.  Christy Muldrew of SIUE broke up the Panthers clean sweep with a fourth place finish.
 
Avery Braker and Olivia Esche closed out the top five for EIU.  Braker was fifth with a time of 22:16.2.  Esche was sixth with a time of 22:24.5.
 
On the men's Isaac Ndiwa of Lindenwood took home the individual title winning the 8K race for the Lions with a time of 25:07.1.  
 
Michael Atkins was the top EIU finisher in the race finishing in fifth place with a time of 25:20.2.  
 
The Panthers then had a solid group of runners close out the batch with EIU placing finishers in seventh, ninth, tenth, 11th, 12th and 13th place to win the race with 42 points.   Morehead State was second in the men's event with 49 points.
 
Cale Smith was EIU's second overall finisher in seventh with a time of 25:42.3.  Jiberil Lesman was ninth at 25:58.0 followed by Tyler Dillon in tenth with a time of 26:00.2.   Bradley Ahrens was EIU's final top five scored runner in 11th placed with a time of 26:03.1.
 
Aidan Gonzalez (12th / 26:07.6) and Mason Stoeger (13th / 26:18.4) were the sixth and seventh EIU runners in the field factoring in the team scoring.  The men's meet featured six schools with five from the OVC with EIU leading the way followed by Morehead State, SIUE, Southeast Missouri and Lindenwood.
 
After the five EIU women's finishers in the top six spots the Panthers next two runners factoring in the scoring were Chloe Proffitt (22nd / 23:26.6) and Ashlyn Denney (24th / 23:28.8).  Morehead State was second in the field with 57 points as seven total teams competed.  SIUE, SEMO and Lindenwood rounded out the OVC schools in the field.
 
EIU will host this year's Ohio Valley Conference Championship on Friday, October 31 at the EIU Tom Woodall Panther Trail.
